Pool . . .

is a term frequently used to refer to venture capital funds. The term comes from the investors in the fund pooling or commingling their investments to create the fund. Typically, these venture partnerships are managed by professional venture capitalists who receive between two and one half to three percent of their funds under management as an annual management fee. They receive a share of the partnership’s profits, commonly called "carried interest", as well. This carried interest portion provides an incentive for the venture managers to invest wisely. Typical venture fund investors include pension funds, insurance companies, corporations, and individuals. See: Venture Capitalists.
