Pool . . .
is a term frequently used to refer to venture capital
funds. The term comes from the investors in the fund pooling or
commingling their investments to create the fund. Typically, these
venture partnerships are managed by professional venture capitalists
who receive between two and one half to three percent of their funds
under management as an annual management fee. They receive a share of
the partnership’s profits, commonly called "carried
interest", as well. This carried interest portion provides an
incentive for the venture managers to invest wisely. Typical venture
fund investors include pension funds, insurance companies,
