Huntz, Jr. and Clinton Richardson to foster closer professional relationships among the members of the Southeast venture community through the exchange of information and ideas, the Atlanta Venture Forum has since grown to become the largest trade association for private equity investors in the Southeast. The activities of the Atlanta Venture Forum are managed by its officers and directors.

Director Biographies


John P. Cayce
John P. Cayce has recently retired from the UPS Strategic Enterprise Fund (SEF) where he served as manager. The SEF was formed in April, 1997 as the venture capital arm of UPS, which is the world’s leading package distribution company. Mr. Cayce was responsible for sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities, facilitating the ongoing relationship between UPS and the venture capital community and portfolio companies, and overall management of the investment activities of the Fund.

Before this assignment, Mr. Cayce served as a Systems Manager in the UPS Treasury Group. During his 23 years with UPS, he held various positions in I.S., Finance and Accounting. Prior to joining UPS, Mr. Cayce served as a Vice-President of the Fulton National Bank in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was a lending officer and relations manager. Mr. Cayce served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969 as an Artillery officer. Mr. Cayce serves as a director of the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma. Mr. Cayce holds a BBA degree from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA degree from Georgia State University.


Frank X. Dalton.
Mr. Dalton heads the investment activity for Information Technology related opportunities as managing partner of one of Cordova's newest funds, Cordova Intellimedia Ventures, L.P. His background also includes investment banking to emerging technology companies specializing in mergers and acquisitions, advisory services and capital raising. He was also a partner with BDO Seidman LLP's Atlanta office in charge of the Emerging Business Group, specializing and working with growth companies, both public and private, with heavy emphasis in the technology sector.

Mr. Dalton started his career with Ernst & Ernst in Atlanta in 1978 and has a B.S. in Accounting from the University of South Carolina. Mr. Dalton is a past board member of the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) and the past President of the Southeastern Software Association (SSA), as well as, an active member of the Business and Technology Alliance (B&TA), active member of the Atlanta Technology Angels, Board member of the Technology Executives Roundtable (TER), Board member of the Atlanta Venture Forum and Advisory Board member of the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina.


Russell R. French
Mr. French serves as a managing partner of Noro-Moseley Partners, one of the oldest and largest venture capital firms in the Southeast. NMP was originated in 1983 to find, acquire, and manage investments in a limited number of private, diversified small and medium-sized growth companies. Prior to joining NMP in 1985, Mr. French practiced law for 15 years with the Atlanta based law firm of King & Spalding. He received his BA from Emory University and his JD from the University of Virginia.


Bernard Gray
Mr. Gray began his career at Morgan Guaranty in New York City.  After completion of his MBA, he joined family-owned Summit Communications Group, a broadcast and cable holding company.  From 1975 to 1990, he worked in various capacities at Summit, primarily in the finance and business development areas.

Mr. Gray began Gray Ventures in 1991 in order to make angel investments in early stage technology companies.  Since that time, Gray Ventures has been involved in over 35 deals in the Atlanta, Georgia and Research Triangle Park, North Carolina markets.

Mr. Gray has a B.A. from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and a M.B.A. from Columbia University.


Barbara M. Henagan
Ms. Henagan is Managing Director and Founder of LINX Partners. She has more than twenty years of direct private equity investing experience. Previously Ms. Henagan was the Senior Managing Director of Bradford Ventures Ltd.

Ms. Henagan is or has been the Chairman of the Board or member of the board of numerous public and private companies including Central Sprinkler Corporation, Colonial Printing, L.L.C., Futronix Corporation, General Bearing Corporation, HWC Holding Corporation, Paramount Cards, Snowden Pencer Holdings, Inc., Travis International, U.S. Precision Glass, and V-Span, Inc.

Ms. Henagan is a Trustee of the Atlanta Botanical Garden, on the Board of the Atlanta Venture Forum and is a member of the Committee of 200. She also serves on the Board of Councilors of The Carter Center and is a member of the Goizueta Business School Advisory Board of Emory University. She holds an MBA from Columbia University and graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University.


Bonnie L. Herron
Ms. Herron is Chief Financial Officer, Vice President and Corporate Secretary of Intelligent Systems Corporation. Ms. Herron is also Director of the Intelligent Systems Incubator, responsible for the operations, programs and promotion of the technology business incubator.

Ms. Herron is chair of  the board of directors of the National Business Incubation Association, and sits on the boards of the Technology Association of Georgia, Atlanta Venture Forum and Advisory Council of Georgia’s Intellectual Capital Partnership Program.   She is also co-chair of the Growth Capital Special Interest Group and sits on the board of directors of several of the Company’s private ventures. She is a past director of the American Electronics Association (Southeast chapter).

Prior to her present position, Ms. Herron was the General Manager of Datavue Corporation, Director of Planning at Quadram Corporation and Director of Planning at Intelligent Systems Corporation. Ms. Herron spent 10 years as a Director of Athletics at several secondary schools in Ontario, Canada. Ms. Herron received a B.A. in education and a B.A. in physical education from the University of Toronto and a M.B.A. from Mercer University.


John J. Huntz, Jr.
Mr. Huntz is a founding Director and President of the Atlanta Venture Forum.  He serves as Managing Director of Fuqua Ventures where he is responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of direct private equity investments from a fund provided by the Fuqua family.  Fuqua typically invests in technology-based growth companies.  Prior to starting with Fuqua in 1994, Mr. Huntz served as Managing Partner of Noble Ventures International, directed the Capital Resources Group for Arthur Young & Company, and worked as an investment professional for Harrison Capital, Inc. - Texaco’s venture capital subsidiary.

Mr. Huntz is a board member of the National Venture Capital Association, a member of the National Association of Small Business Investment Companies, as well as a board member and past President of the Atlanta Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth.  Actively involved in the community, Mr. Huntz served on Senator Paul Coverdell’s Business Task Force, the Securities and Exchange Commission's Executive Committee on Capital Formation, and the boards of the Atlanta Botanical Garden and Atlanta Charity Clays, Inc.  He earned a BBA from Niagara University and an MBA from Sacred Heart University.


George W. Levert
Mr. Levert serves as Managing Director of Kinetic Ventures a leading provider of capital to entrepreneurial companies addressing growth markets related to communications, the Internet, and customer service opportunities. The company focuses on investments in segments critical to the transition underway in the deregulating utility industry. Mr. Levert’s specific investment activities focus on Internet investments, wireless telecommunications and network automation.

Before joining Kinetic Ventures in 1984, Mr. Levert worked with Oglethorpe Power Corporation, Anderson Consulting, Boeing, Simons-Eastern Company, Ford, Bacon & Davis, as well as an officer in the Civil Engineers Corps of the U.S. Navy. Mr. Levert’s current and past board memberships include Video Networks, Inc., Metricom, Inc., Dranetz-BMI Instruments, Todd Combustion and twelve other venture-backed companies. He received his MSIM degree from Georgia Tech and his BSEE degree from Louisiana Tech.


Salvatore A. Massaro
Mr. Massaro is a partner in the EGL Holdings fund which is currently investing out of its third venture capital fund. EGL Equity Partners III seeks to invest in information technology companies where EGL has a proven track record of investment experience. Mr. Massaro sources, executes and monitors private equity transactions. He advises EGL portfolio companies on their strategic, financial and operational challenges through his role on the boards of directors of such companies, and manages EGL’s realization on its investments.

Mr. Massaro joined EGL from Prudential-Bache Venture Capital, Inc., the Managing General Partner of Prudential-Bache Venture Partners I, a public venture capital limited partnership. Before he entered the investment industry, he was Chief Financial Officer of Telesphere International, Inc. Mr. Massaro began his business career in the Management Consulting Group of Price Waterhouse & Co. in New York City. Mr. Massaro serves on the board of a number of EGL portfolio companies. He is a past President of the Southeastern Regional Association of Small Business Investment Companies. Mr. Massaro earned a BS in Business Administration with High Honors from Georgetown University and an MBA from Harvard University.


Bart A. McLean
Mr. McLean is a partner in Cravey, Green, & Wahlen Incorporated, a private equity investment firm which supports management teams in acquisitions and recapitalizations of middle-market companies, typically involving transactions valued between $25 – 200 million. Since its formation in 1984, the firm has focused exclusively on the middle market.

Prior to joining CGW, Mr. McLean was a Principal with Allsop Venture Partners in St. Louis from 1987 through 1992 . From 1983 through 1987, Mr. McLean was a Vice President of Republic Venture Group, the venture capital subsidiary of Republic Bank - Dallas. He was employed as a lending officer in Republic Bank’s energy banking group from 1981 to 1983. Mr. McLean holds a BS from the University of Delaware (1979) and an MBA from Indiana University (1981).


Kenneth T. Millar
Mr. Millar serves as Executive Vice President, on the Board of Directors, and the Investment Committee of R-H Capital Inc. Founded in 1995, R-H Capital Partners is an Atlanta-based private equity fund, affiliated with The Robinson-Humphrey Company. Mr. Millar also serves as a Managing Director in the private capital group of Robinson-Humphrey’s Corporate Finance Department. Mr. Millar has had extensive experience in private equity and leveraged transactions in a variety of industries.

Prior to joining Robinson-Humphrey in 1992, Mr. Millar spent ten years as Senior Vice President and Director of GE Capital’s corporate finance group. He held several management and business development positions in the Southeast and Southwest Regional offices which were responsible for all phases of senior debt, subordinated debt, and equity investments. His focus was primarily on the merchant banking, leveraged acquisition and recapitalization markets. Before joining GE Capital, Mr. Millar was a business development officer with Barclays/America Business Credit and a commercial officer with the Citizens and Southern Bank from 1978 to 1983. He earned his BA in Economics from the University of Virginia and MBA from Emory University School of Business.


Clinton Richardson
Mr. Richardson, a founding Director and Secretary of the Atlanta Venture Forum, is a partner with Arnall Golden & Gregory, LLP, a leading commercial law firm in Atlanta, Georgia, where he has practiced for more than 20 years. Mr. Richardson heads up the Firm’s Growth Companies practice and practices extensively with growing companies and private company investors. Mr. Richardson is also the founder of Advisors to Business, Inc., the host company to growCo.com, author of the Growth Company Guide 2000 and creator of the growCo.com enterprise resource.

Mr. Richardson has served as a director or advisory board member of Georgia’s Business and Technology Alliance, the Mercer University Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Financial Manager magazine. He presently serves on the Boards of two privately held growth companies. and is the author of both The Venture Magazine Complete Guide to Venture Capital (NAL 1987) and The Growth Company Guide to Investors, Deal Structures and Legal Strategies (Pfeiffer & Co. 1993). Mr. Richardson graduated phi beta kappa and summa cum laude from Albion College and received his law degree with honors from Duke University.


 
Michael R. Slawson
Mr. Slawson has held engineering and engineering management positions at Hewlett-Packard, Siemens, and Alcatel. At Alcatel, he co-authored two patents in photonics and fiber optic systems. He was selected for the two-year Kauffman Fellows Program in 1996, working in early-stage technology investing at ARCH Venture Partners (Chicago). He currently is on the board of directors of Nitronex, OmniGuide Communications, RF Solutions, Xytrans, XtremeSpectrum, and Ziptronix and is a board observer at Bandwidth9. Mike was previously a director at Mindlever (sold to Centra Software) and a board observer at Novera (sold to Mercator Software).

Mr. Slawson was previously an investment professional at the North Carolina Technological Development Authority. He holds an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an MSEE from North Carolina State, and a BSEE (magna cum laude) from Vanderbilt. Mike grew up in Knoxville, Tenn., and joined Alliance in September, 1998.

 

Jerry D. Wethington
Mr. Wethington is President of River Capital and Managing Principal of River Capital Partners formed in 1983. River Capital typically invests in management buyouts and leveraged buyouts with equity in amounts between $2 Million and $7 Million. Before joining River Capital in 1984, Mr. Wethington worked with Mitchel Steel, Fuqua Industries, and Teledyne, Inc. He serves as Chairman of Consumer Product Enterprises, Inc., American Threshold Industries, Inc., and Tronair, Inc.

Mr. Wethington is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization, and a member of the Association for Corporate Growth. His studies include a BA from the University of Kentucky, a masters from Western Kentucky University, and a MBA from University of Louisville.
